Possessing over a century of experience in areas including marketing, sales, engineering, technology, finance and law we are ideally positioned to attract the best opportunities, and be able to bring real value to bear for the various and diverse operations in which we invest.

Making our sole focus the growth of investee companies, we are able to eliminate the costly chaff associated with conventional investment management. We are not driven by assets under management, nor compensated for mediocrtiy. We are a structured response to growing a market-beating investment portfolio for Albertans, by Albertans.

Board of Directors

Paul Cataford

Recognized as a visionary leader in the business and technology community, Mr. Cataford knows how to bring innovation to market and create significant shareholder value. He has been involved as a venture capitalist in investments made in over 35 companies. His competitive drive, tenacity, creativity and passion have contributed to taking a number of companies from start-up to public listing (TSX and NASDAQ), merger or strategic sale. In three cases, Series A or B investments led to company valuations greater than $1 billion within 5 years of investment. Mr. Cataford holds a BSc (Mech. Engineering) from Queen’s University, an MBA (Finance) from the Schulich School of Business and has the ICD.D designation from Rotman School of Management. In addition to founding and being the current Chief Executive Officer of Zephyr Sleep Technologies Inc., Mr. Cataford currently sits on the board of directors of Sierra Wireless Inc. (SWIR – NASDAQ & TSX) and Defense Construction Canada (Crown Corporation).


James Griffith

Mr. Griffith brings over three decades of technical innovation and commercial development leadership. Mr. Griffith was most recently the Chief Operations Officer for an Albertan technology company focusing on greenhouse gas emissions monitoring and quantification. Previously, Mr. Griffith led over 260 people across three continents for Royal Dutch Shell, focusing on competitive intelligence and performance improvement in Shell's deep water and shale upstream operations. Earlier in his career, Mr. Griffith assisted Halliburton with the patent and commercialization of new technologies including foam cement, and with Chevron he achieved new production from wells nearing their economic limit with the application of new technologies. Mr. Griffith holds 47 patents and has authored countless technical and white papers on innovation and commercialization. Mr. Griffith holds professional engineering licenses in both Canada and the United States and attained an MBA from Oklahoma City University and an MSc in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Oklahoma.


David Halford

Mr. Halford is an independent businessman with over 25 years of experience leading businesses. Until 2015, Mr. Halford was the Executive Vice-President, Finance & Planning, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Risk Officer of ENMAX Corporation. Prior to that, Mr. Halford was involved in various oil and gas companies including holding the position of Chief Financial Officer at OPTI Canada Inc. and Irving Oil Limited. Prior to entering the oil and gas industry, Mr. Halford was a partner in the Corporate Finance/Mergers and Acquisitions Group in Deloitte & Touche LLP’s Toronto office where he advised many early stage companies in corporate finance transactions including acquisitions, divestitures and financings. Mr. Halford is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant, has the ICD.D designation and is also a member of the board of directors of Trinidad Drilling Ltd. (TDG - TSX).


Jerald Rukavina

Mr. Rukavina possesses over 20 years of experience in founding, running and investing in early-stage growth businesses around the globe and has participated as an investor and advisor in funding over $60 million in debt and equity transactions. Most recently, Mr. Rukavina has supported Canadian and international businesses grow through commercial development and financial support as a director and President and Chief Executive Officer of Attalin Investment Corporation. Prior to this, he supported start-ups with Innovate Calgary, Alberta Deal Generator and DeltaTee Enterprises Ltd. Mr. Rukavina has also founded a business in the construction industry and subsequently an oil and gas development company. Mr. Rukavina is responsible for investment origination, playbook generation and portfolio support. Mr. Rukavina holds an MBA from Royal Roads University.


Kyle Tansey

Mr. Tansey has over 10 years of experience working with growth enterprises in the areas of transaction diligence, post-merger integration, geographical expansion and risk assessment and litigation. Mr. Tansey is a founder and Managing Director of Yesna Capital Ltd., a private equity syndicated investor and advisor to small and medium sized enterprises across Western Canada generating revenues of below $20 million annually. Previously, Mr. Tansey worked with London-based Charles Taylor PLC advising domestic and international underwriters on energy and diversified industry risks including subrogation and product and environmental liabilities up to $500 million. Prior to his return to Canada, Mr. Tansey worked on cross-border commercial and banking transactions valued at over $100 million including sourcing, diligence and post-merger integration with Nicholson Partners. Mr. Tansey is a finance graduate and holds an LLB from the University of London, UK.
